About the Program

Where AI Theory Meets Real Hardware

Join us for an extraordinary learning journey at UC Berkeley. Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing industries worldwide — from healthcare and finance to entertainment and education — and is becoming an essential skill for the future workforce.

This two-week summer camp offers intensive instruction with mornings focused on core ML theory and afternoons dedicated to hands-on hardware and software projects, culminating in an FPGA emulation capstone on a Basys 3 board.

Mr. Mauro currently teaches Computer Science, Machine Learning, and Digital Electronic Circuit Design. He founded NexStream Technical Education to provide enrichment opportunities in these areas for professionals looking to advance their skill sets.

He received his engineering degree and then spent over 20 years in the high-tech industry as a hardware, software, and systems designer at Qualcomm Inc. with 20+ patents.

🏆 In 2019, 12 of his students were accepted to MIT.

  • Digital logic: Boolean functions, combinational & sequential circuits
  • ML math: linear algebra, matrix operations, derivatives
  • Exploratory data analysis & descriptive statistics
Week 2 · ML & Capstone
  • Regression, clustering, and neural networks
  • Hardware Description Language (HDL) & FPGA design
  • Capstone: FPGA emulation on Basys 3 board
  • Outstanding students may receive a recommendation letter

Prerequisites

What You Should Know Coming In

Algebra 2 (minimum)
Comfort with linear equations, matrices, and basic functions.
Basic Boolean Logic
Familiarity with AND, OR, NOT gate logic is helpful.

Some prior Python exposure required. Pre-assessment provided.
